TO PROVIDE EASTFIELD WITH A dedicated COMMUNITY SKATEPARK

Why we need this

After the popular metal skatepark at Pindar School was demolished some years ago, there hasn’t been a place in Eastfield for young people to enjoy skateboarding and scootering. Those who can afford it have to travel to the seafront skatepark. Eastfield lacks physical activities for 11 to 17-year-olds, and it’s time they had a place to burn off energy. While Filey is building their own skatepark, we’re still waiting for promised investments in our town that never seem to happen.

Aims of the project

Eastfield Residents Association plan to build a concrete skatepark on the site of the old Overdale School. Discussions with North Yorkshire Council began last year to secure part of the site for community use. Eastfield Town Council has pledged £25k, and the PACT regeneration group has pledged another £25k. The total cost is expected to be around £350k to £400k, which we aim to raise through national grants, local businesses and a crowdfunding campaign.

How you can get involved

There are several ways you can get involved and contribute to the skatepark:

  • Come to our Residents Association meetings and share your ideas. (see our Facebook page for details)
  • Volunteer your time for our fundraising events.
  • Organise your own event – such as cake bakes, car washes, sponsored activities etc to raise money.
  • Spread awareness through social media and word of mouth.
  • Sign the petition to North Yorkshire Council, urging them to let us have the Overdale site.
  • Make a donation, big or small, to help us meet the funding target.

Active participation from the community is crucial in bringing the skate park to life and creating an exciting recreational space for everyone to enjoy.
